SLD1 (Owls)

Welcome, welcome, welcome to our Primary 1/2 SLD class page!
We are a busy and happy class with 9 amazing pupils, 2 in Primary 1 and 7 in Primary 2!
In our class, the children are at the centre of everything we do, with every child valued, supported and encouraged to grow in independence. This year, learning has taken place through play, discovery and creative activities that support communication. We have used a range of strategies including stories, songs, games and engaging approaches such as Attention Autism, and we have never shied away from getting messy if it meant learning was meaningful and enjoyable. Together, we have explored new ideas, followed the children’s lead, grown as a supportive community and encouraged each child to take an active role in their learning journey.
We have worked closely with parents and Speech and Language Therapists, using a graduated approach that best suits each individual child’s needs. This partnership has helped ensure consistent and supportive opportunities for communication and progress.
Learning has also extended beyond the classroom, with regular trips into the community to explore Kilcooley Woods and the school’s surrounding areas. These experiences have supported the development of confidence, independence and real-life skills in a familiar and supportive way.
Wellbeing has remained a key focus, with mindfulness, continuous opportunities for movement and fun activities helping everyone feel happy and safe. Kindness, teamwork and respect have guided everything we do, creating a classroom where children feel included and confident to make choices.
We are incredibly proud of the progress the children have made so far in Primary 1/2 SLD and look forward to continuing this learning journey together.
