SLD2 (Otters)

Welcome to the Otters Class!
We have 8 amazing pupils from P2 to P4 who bring energy, curiosity, and creativity to every day. We follow a sensory-focused curriculum that helps each child thrive, build confidence, and reach their full potential.
We love learning through play! Our favourite activities are hands-on, messy, and full of fun – staff love getting in on the action too. Our lessons include Literacy, Numeracy, Phonics, Cookery, Attention Autism, and TACPAC, with mindfulness, relaxation, and wellbeing woven throughout the day.
We create a communication-friendly environment where every pupil can succeed. We use tools such as PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), Makaton, visual and object schedules to provide structure and support understanding. Pupils are responding brilliantly to these tools, using them more independently every day.
Our P4 pupils stay until 14:50, which has given us extra time to focus on a range of skills, including problem-solving, extended literacy and numeracy tasks, Intensive Interaction, social and communication developments. This extra time has been fantastic for building confidence and independence.
Outdoor adventures are a highlight of our week. We explore our playground, the local park, and enjoy Forest School, where pupils develop confidence, teamwork, and gross motor skills while discovering the natural world.
Our classroom is full of laughter, creativity, and discovery and every day brings something new to explore, learn, and enjoy together.
