SLD (Frogs)

Hello everyone and welcome to the Frogs class page! Our class is made up of 8 P1 and P2 pupils.

In the Frogs class, we strive to create a welcoming, calm, and nurturing environment where children are supported to reach their full potential. This year, we moved to a new classroom and the pupils have adapted to the change and settled extremely well.

We are committed to meeting each pupil’s individual needs on a daily basis. This is supported through a communication-friendly environment using PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), Makaton, and object schedules to promote consistency and understanding. Object schedules have been introduced recently, and pupils are responding very positively, using them with increasing independence. We also provide sensory-friendly spaces and a range of engaging, hands-on activities to ensure learning is accessible and enjoyable for all.

Our weekly timetable includes Attention Autism, Literacy, Numeracy, Phonics, Cookery, TACPAC (Touch and Communication Package), SLT groups, Music, PE, Sensology, and daily indoor and outdoor play, which the children thoroughly enjoy. We are incredibly proud of our pupils already and look forward to seeing their continued progress as the year goes on.

As the year continues, we aim to provide opportunities for pupils to access the local community to support their topic work.

We take part in weekly social communication groups led by our Speech and Language Therapist, Ciara. These groups began in term 2 of last year and have continued this year, with pupils making excellent progress
