P2/3

Welcome to P2/3

WAU

In September Primary 2/3 started their new Thematic Unit “Splish, Splash, Splosh”.  We explored the location of our oceans and the many different creatures that live in them.  We found out about plastic pollution and how to help protect our planet.  The children enjoyed finding out if objects float or sink, learning that it is the shape of an object that makes it float not its size.  The water cycle came to life through our water cycle in a bag experiment.

Literacy

In literacy we are refreshing our knowledge of phonics through the Jolly Phonics programme and are continuing to build our key words.  Through creative writing we have made our own paper strip poems about sea creatures and Christmas.

Numeracy

In numeracy children have opportunities to engage in a wide range of purposeful mathematical activities. Playing and exploring encourages an investigative nature where children learn the value of mathematical resilience.

Trips

P2/3 were delighted to visit Nature Rangers at Clandeboye Estate where we made acorn shakers in the Forest and smores over the campfire.  This provided our stimuli for our Recount Writing Genre for Term 1.

Outdoor Learning

Outdoor Learning is an important aspect of our life in P2/3 and we regularly visit our Forest School garden and Kilcooley Woods for Forest School Lessons. Our school is now recognised as an OAK level Forest School which is the highest-ranking Forest School award in NI.

We are so proud of how well everyone has settled into P2/3 and we are really looking forward to the year ahead.
