Welcome to P5!
We have had a very busy term! Our topic has been ‘The Blue Planet’. The children have enjoyed finding out lots of information about our planet earth including why the world is called ‘The Blue Planet’ and looking at oceans, seas, continents and rivers. We have also been looking at the Water Cycle and we completed a piece of explanation writing to explain the process of the Water Cycle. We even earned enough ‘Dojo Points’ to go on a class trip to Castle Espie next term!
As part of our Global Learning we have been focusing on plastic pollution and how this has affected our land, seas and animals. We also discovered that we as humans even eat plastic at times due to plastic pollution!
Our art has been very creative this term looking at posters to show alternative materials that we can use instead of plastic, creating our self-portraits and our rainbow fish.
We also started our ‘Roots of Empathy’ programme with our specially trained Roots of Empathy teacher Mrs Stewart. At the heart of the programme are a neighbourhood infant and parent who visit the classroom every three weeks over the school year. Children observe the baby’s development and label the baby’s feelings. This “emotional literacy” taught in the programme lays the foundation for safer and more caring classrooms, where children are the “Changers”.
We are all looking forward to our next topic ‘Egypt’.
